Since 2000, the Friends of the BC Archives Society has helped support the mission and values of the Archives. Individual volunteers have spent countless hours ensuring that archive materials are properly housed and preserved, creating indexes and finding aids, and organizing workshops and lectures.
The aims of the Friends have been to:
• Foster awareness and appreciation of the BC Archives, and an understanding of the documentary history of British Columbia.
• Further understanding, communication and cooperation between the BC Archives and the people of British Columbia.
• Assist the BC Archives in acquiring, preserving, and making available records of historical significance.
• Promote and support various public education activities in British Columbia's documentary heritage.
• Study, and assist in developments in archival activities in British Columbia and elsewhere.
• Receive donations, bequests and other gifts, and to generate revenue to further the aims of the Friends.
Friends’ Activities: Meetings, Lectures, Workshops and Tours
The Friends organize and host lectures, workshops and tours throughout the year on a variety of topics connected with the Archives and the history of the province. We also produce a quarterly newsletter, with articles about the Archives. Our Annual General Meeting is held in October.

Volunteering with the Friends at the Archives
Members of the Friends who volunteer get a wonderful opportunity to work with the collections and assist the Friends. There are a range of volunteer projects, including safely re-housing material, restoring the arrangement of records, and preparing and revising finding aids and indexes.
For more information about enrolling in the volunteer program call Ann ten Cate at 250-387-2970.
