Usage

Electronic Access and Links to This Web Site

Electronic access to BC Archives information resources is provided for research purposes only.  Users will ensure that the information and/or image source, and its proper citation will remain clearly identified on any material they access and retain. Digital manipulation and/or modification of the content of these images is expressly forbidden.

The BC Archives encourages other web sites to link to the main BC Archives Home Page (as a normal link, not within a frame).  Agencies or users that wish to create specific links to information elements other than as noted above; for example BC Archives photographic images embedded in web pages on external sites or other BC Archives web pages, must request permission in advance by contacting the BC Archives, and provide details on the proposed usage. The BC Archives will then provide more detailed and specific guidelines for the use and citation of such material.

Research Access Use

The archival holdings of the BC Archives are available to all researchers (historians, geographers, genealogists, students, etc.) who require information for research or personal use.  Reproductions can be made when copying is permitted under Canadian copyright legislation and donor restrictions and when copying does not jeopardize the physical condition of the records.

The BC Archives reserves the right to refuse to provide service to persons whose motives or intentions appear questionable. Instances of abuse of material will result in the withdrawal of service to the individual. Abusive treatment of reference staff by patrons will be brought to the attention of the Manager, Access Services, and may result in the withdrawal of service to the individual.
