Collections Policy

The Royal British Columbia Museum Corporation (RBCM) contains detailed information on all of the province's natural and human history. It includes a collection of over 10 million objects and specimens and millions of significant government documents and records; substantial photographic, audio and video collections; artworks; and an extensive library of publications.
 
The primary purpose of the RBCM: To secure, receive and preserve specimens, artifacts and archival and other materials that illustrate the natural or human history of British Columbia - is governed by policies clearly outlining the stewardship of these collections.
 
The RBCM subscribes to all national and international standards of conservation as set down by the British Columbia Museums Association, the Canadian Museums Association and the International Council of Museums. The RBCM also subscribes to international and national standards for archives, International Council of Archives and the Canadian Council of Archives.
