Textual Records and Library Material

Depending on copyright and donor restrictions and the physical condition of the records, you may be able to order copies of textual records and library materials.  All copies are made by Archives staff.

In-person researchers must complete a Photocopy Requisition form and have it approved by the Duty Archivist in the Reference Room.  Researchers who cannot visit the Archives can order copies of specific records by sending a written inquiry.

Examples of specific records that you can order are:
•  Vital Event Registrations (historical birth, death and marriage registrations)
•  Court records (e.g. wills, probates and divorce orders)
•  Coroner's inquiries or inquests (in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act)
•  Records of the Corporate Registry (e.g. Companies, Societies)
•  Newspaper articles (including items from our clippings files)
•  Government and manuscript records
•  Library material (in accordance with the Canadian Copyright Act)

Each written request for reproduction of a specific document is subject to a $30.00 all-inclusive fee, which must be paid in advance, and includes up to 30 pages of photocopies or microfilm prints, all applicable taxes, postage and handling fees.  You must pay the fee for each record you request. For example, if you request a copy of one birth registration you will pay $30.00. If you request one death registration and one will, you will pay $60.00: $30.00 for the death registration and $30.00 for the will.

Note:  Do not send payment with your request.  Staff will check that a photocopy or reproduction can be made and will then contact you for payment.

For more information on fees, see the price list.
