Photocopying

There is no self-serve copying of archival material or books.  If you need something to be photocopied, please fill out the appropriate form and mark the pages you need copied with the slips provided for this purpose.  Do not remove pages or files.  Keep all records in their original order at all times.  Bring the box or container or book with the marked pages to the Reference Desk to obtain authorization from the Duty Archivist.  Authorization is subject to the condition of the material and may be refused if copying will damage it.  Canadian copyright legislation and donor restrictions may also limit what may or may not be copied.  Please allow up to four weeks for processing your order.  See Photocopies and Reproductions

Self-serve copies can be made, during full-service hours, from microfilms and microfiche using the reader-printers in the Microfilm Room.

Photos in the Photo Reference Room and printed finding aids in the Reference Room may be photocopied using the copier in the Photo Reference Room, or you may use your own camera to photograph them.

Images may be printed from visual records on our web site as a laser print or glossy high quality reproduction.  See staff for more information.

For information regarding copies of sound recordings, films and maps, see Photocopies and Reproductions

Photographing Archival Material for Your Research
The BC Archives permits the photographic copying of archival material by researchers for research purposes only. Cameras (digital or traditional film cameras) can be used but flash photography is not permitted.  Researchers must ensure a wrist or neck strap is used while photographing material and that bound items are photographed in the specified area of the reference room. Any questions can be directed to staff.
