Pre-Arranging Access
Researchers are reminded that the majority of our records are stored offsite, and many are restricted. Records that are stored offsite may take from 3 to 5 days to retrieve. Arranging for authorized access to restricted records can take up to several weeks, depending on the circumstances. Researchers are encouraged to contact the BC Archives well in advance of their visit to ensure timely access. Up to ten boxes can be requested from offsite storage at one time.
It is recommended that written requests be made several weeks in advance of a research visit and telephone requests at least two weeks before your visit.
Access to some special media such as film and original paintings requires advance notice. For more information see the Collections section.
