On the British Columbia’s north coast the isolated mine and smelter community of Anyox became a leading producer of copper between 1914 and 1935. It was one of the largest population centres in Northern British Columbia until declining copper prices and lower grade ore resulted in the mine and smelter closing. By the end of 1936 the town was virtually abandoned, as its residents scattered seeking new employment.
