Gallery Rentals

Make your next event a historical occasion.  Three permanent exhibit galleries are available, after regular visiting hours, for private business or conference events.

In the Natural History Gallery your guests can dine with a Woolly Mammoth, a grizzly bear or a sea lion looking on.  The Modern History Gallery has Captain Vancouver's ship, a water wheel and a turn-of-the-century town, all perfect settings for entertainment and learning about the early days of British Columbia.  The breathtaking First People's Gallery showcases majestic totems and First Nations artifacts.  Feast on traditional BC foods with a modern twist while watching a First Nations' performance. Whether your group is 10 or 2,000, the Royal BC Museum will give your business or conference guests a chance to see, feel and taste the history of British Columbia.

Our professional Gallery Rental Program Manager is experienced in organizing events at the Museum. Starting with the initial consultation, the Manager will assist you to ensure your event meets your budget, your objectives, and has the overall desired effect.

The museum showcases BC's natural and human history and will leave your guests with enduring memories. Many evening guests have said our exhibits and events are among the most original and creative they have experienced. Whether the setting is Old Town, the cannery or homestead displays, among the totems of the First Peoples Gallery, or with the wildlife in a Coastal Rainforest, your event will create its own history.

"Every aspect of the evening was perfect and certainly created a very positive impression on our business partners, guests and potential customers." - David Podmore, President and Chief Executive Officer, Concert Properties

"The opening reception at the Museum was a first class function." - Thomas J. Emerson, Activities Chairman, 1999 CAPL Conference

Special Exhibits

In addition to our permanent exhibit areas, the special exhibit gallery houses world-class temporary exhibitions several times each year.

"It was the perfect combination of atmosphere and food to create an evening that our guests from across the country and locally will be talking about for some time." - Raymond Chan, Director, Client Services, Tourism British Columbia

Extraordinary Spaces

The main lobby of the Royal BC Museum welcomes about one million visitors a year. There are two parts to the ground floor the magnificent glass foyer with its striking totem poles and the adjoining Clifford Carl Hall with an excellent multipurpose area.

The Natural History Gallery on the second floor takes visitors through the last Ice Age into typical ecosystems as they exist today. The special exhibit gallery is also on this level.

The third floor of the Museum features BC's Modern and First Peoples history. Guests stroll down wood-cobbled streets of the past, fascinated by impressive reconstructions of rural, urban and early industrial scenes.

Many who have rented the galleries have enriched the evening's ambiance with special entertainment and have created menus to match the setting.

The Royal BC Museum, situated on the historic Inner Harbour, is within an eight-minute walk of most major hotels in downtown Victoria. Both the Fairmont Empress Hotel and the majestic provincial Parliament Buildings are just across the street. The Victoria Conference Centre is only one block away, making the Royal BC Museum easily accessible to visiting conference groups.
